Announcement of April subscription concerts cancellation and postponement

Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra respectfully informs its audience that Maestro Mikhail Pletnev, who was to conduct the Peer Gynt performances scheduled April 19, 20, and 22, has become unavailable to perform these subscription concerts as originally scheduled due to physical conditions. Coincidentally with the recent passing of his mother, Mo. Pletnev has suffered from severe high blood pressure.

Mo. Pletnev's doctors in Moscow have advised strongly against international travel for the coming days to ensure his health, which prevents his planned performance in Japan. As the scheduled performances of the entire work of Peer Gynt were developed under the artistic supervision of Mo. Pletnev, which we have endeavored with him so passionately to produce and could not possibly substitute with another conductor, we are hoping to postpone the performance to a later date rather than perform without Mo. Pletnev. We have therefore cancelled the currently scheduled performances and will inform our audiences soon about receiving refunds for purchased tickets.

Regarding postponement, we hope to find a way to reschedule the performance as originally envisioned! As this is a sudden and very unexpected announcement, we have no information about a new Peer Gynt schedule now, except to say that Maestro Pletnev, our guest singers, cast, staff and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra remain hopeful about realizing our passion for the Peer Gynt music and story.
