Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (Sony) launched.

1949 19 Graduated Shizuoka Kenritsu Numazu Daiichi High School, and entered the Voice Division of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music.  
1953 23 Graduated the same university specialized in voice, and further studied in the advanced study program (equivalent of the current graduate school) of the university. 1953

TV broadcasting started in Japan.

Debut at the 347th NHK Symphony Orchestra subscription concert as a solo singer (bass) in Beethoven's Fidelio.  
1954 24 Completed Diploma Course (equivalent of the current graduate school) at the same university.  
1955 25 "Moved to Germany and entered Hochschule" für Musik und Theater München. First encounter with Karajan. 1955

First Antarctic Observation Ship Soya launched from Tokyo.

1957 27 Graduated from Universität der Künste Berlin with top honors. After returning to Japan, he joined Nikikai Opera Foundation. Married to Midori Matsubara, pianist friend from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music, who studied together in Berlin. 1957

Soviet Union launched Sputnik.

Performed at the 109th Kansai Symphony Orchestra subscription concert as a solo singer (bass) for Haydn's Oratorio the Four Seasons.  
1958 28 Performed Count Almaviva (bass) for Mozart opera le nozze di Figaro.  
1959 29 Joined Sony Corporation. Pursued two careers as a Sony employee in the day and a musician at night.  
1960 30 Last opera appearance as Peter of Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel. 1961

The United States launched first manned space flight.

1962 32 Performed in the 63rd Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra subscription concert as a soloist for Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem. 1964

18th Olympics Games in Tokyo.

1969

Apollo 11 lands on the Moon.

1973 43 Performed as a solo singer (bass) for Faure's Requiem with the Tokyo Metroporitan Symphony Orchestra. 1979

Sony launched Walkman.

1982

Sony launched Compact Disc (CD) .

1985 55 With Hansjörg Schellenberger, Principal oboe player at the Berlin Philharmonic, launched the International Oboe Competition of Japan in Tokyo, now held every 3 years in Karuizawa.  
1989 59 Assumed two positions of President and CEO of Sony.  
Attended Karajan, who fell ill during a meeting in Europe and subsequently passed away.

1990 60 On the occasion of 60 years' celebration, returned to music as a conductor, debuting with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he had collaborated most as a baritone singer. 1990

1993 63 Conducted The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at Lincoln Center. 1993

European Union (EU) begins.

1994 64 Collaborated with Lorin Maazel and James Galway for Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Fund Raising Concert, Saturday Night. 1994

Sony launched PlayStation.

Collaborated with Philippe Entremont (pf) for Wiener KammerOrchester's Japan tour.  
Built Seiji Ozawa Hall in Tanglewood and collaborated with Seiji Ozawa, Yo Yo Ma, and John Williams for its opening concert.  
1995 65 Collaborated with Yo Yo Ma (vc) for Israel Philharmonic's special concert. 1995

Hong Kong returned to China.

1998 68 Conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra.  
1999 69 Became President and Chairman of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.  
2000 70 Conducted Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  
Conducted Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.  
For the Grand Opening Memorial concert of Sony Center, conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for Beethoven Symphony No.9 Chorale.  
2001 71 Conducted Montreal Symphony Orchestra. 2001

September 11 Attack

While conducting the Tokyo Philharmonic for Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 at Beijing Music Festival, he fell ill in the middle of the 2nd movement. Years of treatment followed.  
2003 73 Miraculous return to conduct Beethoven Symphony No.9 with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.  
Donated his retirement fund from Sony to the contraction of Karuizawa Ohga Hall for Karuizawa City.  
2004 74 Became Executive Director at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.  
2005 75 Performed in the Grand Opening Concert of Karuizawa Ohga Hall.  
Performed at Akio Morita Memorial Special Concert with the Tokyo Philharmonic.  
2010 80 Performed in the 5th Anniversary Concert of Karuizawa Ohga Hall (2010 Spring Music Festival) , which was to be his last conducting appearance.  
2011 81 Passed away on April 23. It happened to be at the age of 81 and 3 months, the same as his admired friend, Karajan. 2011
