Yuzuko Horigome

Born in Tokyo, Yuzuko Horigome started her violin lessons at the age of 5 under Ryosaku Kubota. Since 1975, she studied under Toshiya Eto and at Toho Gakuen School of Music.
She won the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium in 1980, the first Japanese violinist to have this prestige. She has played with the world leading orchestras such as Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Chicago Symphony under the baton of Abbado, Ozawa, Rattle among many others.
She has also been active in playing chamber music and has been invited to festivals such as Marlboro, Progetto Martha Argerich, Lugano. Her chamber music friends include Maisky, Argerich and many other musicians.
In Japan, sine 1996 she did a concert series under the title of “Yuzuko Horigome Violin Works — Music Travelling to search for Lyricism,” of which the ideas were highly acclaimed. The live recordings of the concerts were made to CDs.
She is currently professor of the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles.
She plays on Josef Guarneri del Gesu(1741).
