To the members of my Japanese “Family”

It has been a full year since my last visit to Japan and I miss you all very much. I often call the members of the Tokyo Philharmonic my Japanese Family. 2021 is my 20th year in close association with the orchecha, so now even the public who have come to so many concerts can be considered a part of this family.

Although the world has suffered greatly last year, I am a firm believer in that great things come from great suffering. The Tokyo Philharmonic, and indeed all of Japan will come out of this stronger and better. I look forward to seeing you soon and to share our love for music together.
