The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra embarks on Tour in Europe October-November 2025
The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Asia’s leading orchestras and Japan's oldest and largest symphonic ensemble, founded in 1911, will visit Europe, the birthplace of classical music, for an eight city tour from October 28 to November 11, 2025. The orchestra will be conducted on the tour by its Honorary Music Director, Maestro Myung-Whun Chung, with whom they have built a trusting relationship over a quarter of a century and have repeatedly toured together in the Asian region. It will be the first tour of Europe for the orchestra with Maestro Chung, performing in eight of Europe's premier concert halls, bridging cultural ties between Japan and seven countries of Europe.
Immediately following the debut of the program in Tokyo as part of TPO’s subscription concerts, the tour will launch in Berlin, then continue to Budapest, Antwerp, Toulouse, Barcelona, Vienna, and Lugano, and conclude in Düsseldorf. As featured soloists, the orchestra is thrilled to welcome internationally renowned violinist Maxim Vengerov and celebrated jazz & classical pianist Makoto Ozone, whose recent performances of great classical works have garnered critical acclaim and fascination with his style.
This tour will be the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra’s first European appearance since the COVID-19 pandemic, and its first major European tour since the orchestra's triumphant 100th-anniversary global tour in 2014, which represented Japan's cultural resilience after the Great East Japan Earthquake. For the 2025 Tour, the Tokyo Philharmonic aims to underscore the enduring power of music to inspire and unify across cultures.
